​MISSION 

Too many of our scholars, whom I prefer to call “our babies” do not believe that they are capable of excellence. Unfortunately, this belief has been seasoned and slow simmered throughout their educational experiences and is often unintentionally further perpetuated in the home. How do students and teachers alike manage when the curriculum moves at a rate developmentally inappropriate for some and quite honestly, many? How is it that in the real world, we can fail tests multiple times and when we finally pass, have full privileges, are certifiable, and can operate as others that passed initially, but in school often initial attempts at learning is used as a measure of mastery? Why is it that once students matriculate into middle school, they are no longer considered to be fun loving kids stimulated by their environment, are often motivationally anemic, and expected to operate as adults but without the development to do so? These are just a few of the reasons why WAKE Academy haunts me daily and sleeps with me nightly. All kids can become proficient and skilled, in other words excel when they are coached, supported, inspired, and ignited all while maintaining the highest level of academic expectations. We need to consider all of our babies as being extra-ordinary, having varying extra-ordinary challenges, necessitating an extra-ordinary education. WAKE strives to bridge instructional gaps and make this a reality.

WAKE Academy’s mission is to improve academic success through immersing students in a dynamic and engaging multi-sensory out of school educational setting strategically designed to nurture their emerging autonomy, help them develop and manage their executive function skills and cultivate their self-efficacy and confidence.

WAKE Academy offers academic coaching and tutoring services to children from elementary through high school. In the near future, WAKE will enroll 5th-8th grade students in comprehensive middle school afterschool and summer programs geared to obviate middle school attrition.

WAKE Academy approaches are geared to support students in being more effective learners. Our program uses executive functioning methodology coupled with a blended approach of academic coaching and tutoring. WAKE’s system focuses on concrete skills students might need to keep up with schoolwork, improve verbal reasoning, along with a structured and sequential individualized plan to acquire and retain underdeveloped grade level standards.
